Zachary is also a successful Entertainment Lawyer who represents clients in the Film, Television, and Music industries.  Clients in the entertainment industry include film companies, directors, producers, actors and actresses, script-writers, television companies, artists, music companies, singers, song-writers, and social media creators.

 

Zachary combines all of his experience as a Business Lawyer, Business Consultant, and Business Mediator, and applies it to the entertainment industry as an Entertainment Lawyer where provides several legal and business consulting services to his clients.

Contract Negotiation and Drafting

Zachary is deeply involved in negotiating, drafting, and reviewing various types of entertainment-related contracts, such as the following:

  • Production service agreements ("PSAs") (between Film companies and producers).

  • Talent agreements (for actors, musicians, directors, writers)

  • Recording contracts (between artists and labels)

  • Publishing contracts (for authors, songwriters, and content creators)

  • Management and agency agreements

  • Licensing and distribution agreements

Deal Structuring and Business Strategies

Zachary also combines both his legal experience as a Business Attorney, and his business experience as a Business Consultant, whereby he performs the following:

  • Structure complex deals (e.g., profit participation, backend deals, equity splits)

  • Advise on ownership and control over creative content

  • Help form production companies, joint ventures, and other business entities

  • Evaluate financial implications and risks in partnerships and collaboration

Dispute Resolution - Mediation, Litigation and Arbitration

When disputes arise (and they usually do) Zachary also has extensive experience to assist clients solve their problems in a variety of different ways including the following:

  • Negotiate settlements between parties (e.g., film company vs. producer, or producer vs. talent)

  • Represent clients with mediation, litigation, or arbitration (e.g., breach of contract, defamation)

  • Handle disputes over royalties, ownership, and rights of publicity

Notably, Zachary has the privilege of representing Director Joshua (Josh) Friedman in his first feature film "The Queen's Jewels," together with his highly esteemed Executive Producer Linda Duncombe, who is also on the Board of Directors of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation.  Not only did Zachary develop a strong and trusting business relationship with Josh and Linda but, more importantly, Zachary developed a very close personal relationship with both of them, like as a brother and sister - and this goes back to what is stated in the "About" section of this website - "We have close, personal relationships with all of our clients.  Our clients trust us, and we trust them.  Our clients are our friends and a part of our family, and we treat them as we would our own brother or sister, or father or mother."  As part of the family, Zachary was humbled to be a VIP at the movie premier of The Queen's Jewels in L.A., and had the privilege of walking the Red Carpet with his brother and sister - Josh and Linda.
